Othello's Odyssey

Welcome

Hello and welcome to our blog.

We are a group of secondary students (and teacher) who have just begun to study Othello. In the midst of the madness of working our way through the presentation of characters in Act 1 Scene 1, some genius who will remain nameless, mentioned the idea of the blog, and their brilliant, innovative and creative teacher suggested we start one. Properly. So here we are!

Over the next couple of months, we are hoping to add our own individual and group reflections, comments, ideas and thoughts on the play, and hope that others will add their comments. You never know, it may just work?!

OK, so this is the teacher, just setting the scene, but I'm going to leave it up to the rest of the group to take over now, so just watch this space!

Brill blog - you sound like a great group of students; would love to meet you and Misty (Miss T). I love 'Othello'. The main protagonist is so worthy and pure (if a little flawed, perhaps) and the contrast with the truly corrupt Iago is riveting. For me, the most effective elements are how we - as an audience - are drawn into the plot and want to shout 'behind you!'to warn O, and how much we can empathise with and recognise character traits, good and bad.
Josh Hartnett in 'O' is pretty good. Have you seen it?
Would love to see Samuel L Jackson in the main role. "I've had enough of these (bleep)handkerchiefs!"
It's a thought...

Trust you to want Mr. Jackson as Othello, one guess at who you'd like to see as his Desdemona...

Lolsy, yes I could see him as a modern Othello, I think I'd prefer Denzel Washington though. Yes please 'kay thanks.
